With cleaning products, I like to keep things simple. I don’t like having several different products for different purposes. I don’t like storing them, pulling out so many bottles to clean the house, and definitely don’t like spending money on them. So, my secret weapon is this.
I use this stuff for so many things.
- Cleaning mirrors and glass
- Disinfecting surfaces
- Wiping down counters in the kitchen and bath
- Cleaning the toilet
- Mopping
- And my latest favorite use…as fabric softener. Yep, it works like a charm!
The only other cleaning product I buy is Scrub Free for my tubs. I can and have used baking soda and vinegar, but Scrub Free is just so much faster and easier. And the best part about using vinegar for so many things is I get 2 gallons of it from Sam’s Club for a little over $3.00!
What do you do to simplify cleaning?

A friend just gave me this recipe for a similar cleaning solution that I’m soaking and looking forward to using: Put the rind of two lemons in a quart jar and cover them with white vinegar. Soak for 2 weeks. Discard the lemons and strain the liquid. Dilute equal parts with water to use for a cleaning solution.
That’s great, Julie! I have heard of adding lemon juice to the vinegar for it to smell “clean”. Someone else asked about this today too. The smell doesn’t really bother me and it goes away really quickly.
I use vinegar for a lot of cleaning, too. Simple and cheap, and I don’t mind the smell either–it smells better than some of the cleaners I used to use, like Scrubbing Bubbles, yech!
Did you know you can wash your hair with vinegar?
Yes, ‘Becca! The smell of vinegar doesn’t choke me and make me worry about the fumes like other products! I’ve seen different shampoo alternatives. I’ll have to check that out.
Yes! I use vinegar for pretty much all my cleaning as well. That and baking soda.
